It does make it a bit more difficult to determine the length of this one, however. It would have been nice to have some voice acting, but that is not what this sound novel is about, so it’s not really a complaint. The laugh of the primary antagonist in particular sounds like something I heard during the SNES era of gaming. Compared to the music they sound a bit archaic. My one minor complaint is the sound effects. It’s a long road to get to the credits, but well worth the journey. Each episode has its own primary character, but overall it’s mostly just whoever will give the best perspective on the events of that moment. If you only played Episode One, you may think that Battler was the main character, but that proves not to be the case in the long run. T he narrative perspective will frequently switch, unlike most visual novels which are told from a main character’s point of view. The story mostly focuses on the teenage (and child in one case) characters. But the characters are all very well written, even with so many of them appearing. The other reasons are that the character list does change depending on the episode you are in (slightly), and there would be massive spoilers if I went into too much detail. The first is that there is such a large list of major characters, this would be a 20-page review. ![]() I’m not going to go too far into the characters for this game for a couple reasons. I just think this Chapter is about seeking purpose and originating happiness from pain. The character and tip screen changes frequently during the episodes, and even offers some hints. I love listening to her story in a lonely world and her search for an objective and answers. Alliance of the Golden Witch - This has been my favorite so far, we get to meet Ange <3 and a few more characters and is just beatiful. I also liked how the game plays with you, I felt abused just like in Watanagashi, Damn you Ryukishi07!! The ? is also beautiful like nothing else. It really is a difficult game it plays with many concepts and really I had trouble following at times and couldn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked, but it does have its moments and lets you know better other witches and even introduces a new one. Banquet of the Golden Witch - We get to see about another side of Beato and understand better what magic is and where it draws its strength from and how it can be defeated. Turn of the Golden Witch - This is were the game really has begun and you get to see Beato and furniture in all their majesty as well get a better idea that there are more things at stake during the annual conference and we get to see the tale being told from the witches' perspective. I missed the big focus on the introspective side of characters and, although I found them all to be charming characters I couldn't really grasp much depth and didn't LOVE any. ![]() But I could see the potential lurking in the shadows but it really felt like it was laking the sensibility from Higurashi and was going more for the shock and a grand presentation. I have mixed feelings about this games, Tale of the Golden witch was a little disappointing it almost made me forget of what Ryukishi07 is capable of, it was just standard and I didn't really buy the world and the characters, it felt a little bit lost and in the end it followed the same structure from Higurashi I was already expecting. It just really talks about witches born from pain. It talks about the multiple truths that can coexist without denying each other. It talks about respect to others beliefs, about worlds of pain and hatred as well as worlds of joy and love. It's a story I'll forever carry with me and believe it to be priceless. Umineko builds form the foundations of Higurashi, it feels like a continuation and it touches on many of the same things but is on whole other level, Umineko troubles me, it confuses me and makes me doubt, it challenges me and makes me feel a little dejected at times, but is a good story. Higurashi was Shocking it was my second Eva it really shook my perspective for understanding relationships and friendship and building conviction to seize an objective, as well as loosing it all like in Saikoroshi. 125h PlayedIt's a series (When They Cry) that has impacted me more than I could have ever expected when I first gave a chance to visual novels (I'm so glad I played DDLC).
